The borough's town that is largest, (Grays Thurrock) Grays in Essex is a Thurrock unitary authority and one of Thurrock's parishes (Church of England). Bought fish from the locals, Samuel Pepys in his diary recorded that on 24 September 1665 he visited Grays.

With the largest two being the Lion Gorge, and the Warren Gorge, Chafford Hundred and Grays parts are set within Victorian chalk pits. Coming from a Norman knight Anchetil de Greye's descendant, Henry de Grai, who was granted in 1195 the Grays Thurrock manor by Richard I, is the element "Grays".

Grays Beach children's playground and River Thames, from Grays' Derby Road Bridge top to Thurrock Yacht Club one can look down. Close to the A13 road and the M25 motorway, Grays has road links.

With Lakeside Shopping Centre, Purfleet and Tilbury, the road which links the town centre of Grays is the London Road A126. Near Cambridge at Caxton Speedway on 10 September 1931, against the Cambridge called team, a Grays named team raced.

The Thameside Theatre, Thurrock History Museum, Grays Beach and the now-disused State Cinema include sites of interest. With lain on the foreshore for decades and is in a serious state of dilapidation, Grays Beach is the site of the landmark The Gull, a lightship built in 1860, as well as Thurrock Yacht Club.

Served to London Fenchurch Street to the west and Shoeburyness to the east, Grays station runs through the centre of built-up core. With the proximity of Thames has potential for growth, sailing is a popular sport in Grays.
